I have been intrigued by areas of Los Angeles that, without purpose, look like movie sets right after the crew has left. Photographed as scenic canvases they invite the viewer to imagine characters and a plot. Are these places utilized as sets for Reality or is their creation inspired by what has been shown on screens ?
What makes these settings fascinating to me is the visual evidence of human creativity in an unintended, almost accidental way. Sometimes these scenes are ironically invadad by nature, which could manifest itself in the image through a narrative or graphically.
Over the last ten years, utilizing a large format field camera and color negative film I have been aiming to capture these cityscapes objectively and in great detail. The photographs have not been manipulated, they are straightforward documents of space and time, then and now.
